Derby County have reached an agreement with MLS outfit Charlotte FC to sign striker Patrick Agyemang in what is set to be a massive $10 million deal.
John Eustace has already added Andreas Weimann, Danny Batth, Richard O’Donnell and Carlton Morris to his ranks this summer.
The Rams promised their new boss that he would be backed in the transfer market upon his arrival and they are keen to deliver on that.
Derby County’s long-running interest in Patrick Agyemang appears to be nearing a conclusion.
According to American journalist Tom Bogert on X (formerly Twitter), the Rams and Charlotte FC have reached an agreement in principle for the U.S. international striker.
The transfer is reportedly valued around $10 million (£8.4 million) — comprising $8 million (£5.9 million) upfront and $2 million (£1.5 million) in potential add-ons — with Charlotte FC also securing a sell-on clause as part of the deal.
The 24-year-old forward has had an impressive 2025 MLS season so far, netting eight goals and adding two assists in 18 appearances, and is currently representing the United States at the Gold Cup.
Derby had to beat out interest from Championship rivals Ipswich Town, who were also reportedly keen on securing Agyemang’s signature, but now appear to have missed out.
Patrick Agyemang joined Charlotte FC in February 2023 after being selected 12th overall in the MLS SuperDraft. Prior to turning professional, the striker played college soccer at the University of Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut State University.

- Appearances: 72
- Goals: 22
- Assists: 5
In his debut season, Agyemang split his time between Charlotte FC’s first team and their MLS NEXT Pro side, Crown Legacy FC. After scoring 10 goals in just 12 games for Crown Legacy, he earned a regular spot in the senior squad and has been a consistent presence ever since.
Should the transfer go through, it would represent a significant financial outlay for Derby County, as well as a key injection of youthful energy into a squad that has largely been bolstered by more experienced signings this summer.
Given the hefty price tag, Agyemang will be under immediate pressure to hit the ground running at Pride Park.
Eustace is now seeing the benefits of his bold decision to leave play-off contenders Blackburn Rovers for a struggling Derby County side last season, especially with the club showing strong support for him in the transfer market.
The move for Agyemang marks a major financial commitment from the Rams and, once add-ons are factored in, it would make him the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history.
This means that, despite being just 24, there will be immediate expectations for him to make an impact.
Whether he can live up to the hype remains to be seen, but Eustace and his recruitment team are confident he’s the player who can elevate their attacking threat.
