Iga Swiatek Reveals Major Difference About WTA Finals Courts Ahead of Riyadh Showdown
World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has opened up about the biggest difference she’s noticed at the WTA Finals compared to other tournaments on the tour. The Polish star, who has enjoyed another stellar season with titles in Cincinnati, Seoul, and Wimbledon, is aiming to cap off her year with a victory in Riyadh — one that would be the perfect finishing touch to an already remarkable campaign.
Arriving in Saudi Arabia days before the tournament’s official start, Swiatek quickly observed that the playing conditions in Riyadh are unlike anything she’s experienced elsewhere. With Coco Gauff, the 2024 champion, also in the draw, Swiatek is eager to reclaim the WTA Finals crown and end the season on a high.
During her practice sessions, the four-time Grand Slam champion noted that the altitude and court conditions set Riyadh apart from other stops on the WTA Tour.
“I think I was one of the first players that got here,” Swiatek told Sky Sports. “So, I’m happy that I had a couple of days to practice because the conditions are totally different than at any other tournament with the altitude. So yeah, it’s pretty funny, but I’m just excited to start my first match tomorrow.”
With her precise baseline play and tactical versatility, Swiatek has proven she can adapt to any surface. Now, as she prepares to battle the world’s best in these unique conditions, all eyes are on whether the Polish star can add the WTA Finals trophy to her impressive 2025 collection — and dethrone Gauff in the process.
