The Dallas Cowboys claimed a pivotal 34-26 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 12, with running back Rico Dowdle playing a critical role once again. Seeking consistency in their ground game, the Cowboys relied on Dowdle’s dual-threat performance, reminiscent of his standout effort in Week 5 against the Steelers.

In the matchup against Washington, Dowdle rushed 19 times for 86 yards and added three receptions for 12 yards, providing much-needed stability for Dallas’ offense. This followed his Week 5 performance, where he carried the ball 20 times for 87 yards and caught two passes for 27 yards. While his touches in other games peaked at 12, Dowdle’s ability to extend drives proved crucial against Washington, particularly in late-game moments. This allowed quarterback Cooper Rush to deliver two touchdown passes, as he completed 24 of 32 attempts for 247 yards.
Tight end Luke Schoonmaker was among Rush’s key targets, scoring on a 22-yard reception. Despite struggles on third down (2-for-11), the Cowboys’ offense tallied 332 total yards, including 241 passing, to seal the hard-fought win.
Speaking of Cooper Rush, the Monday injury report brings some concern for the 4-7 Cowboys, as their starting quarterback is dealing with a knee issue. While Rush is listed as “limited,” standout players Tyler Smith and Trevon Diggs returned to practice after missing Sunday’s game. Meanwhile, Zack Martin and Jake Ferguson were among those unable to participate.
Head coach Mike McCarthy, addressing Rush’s status as he fills in for the injured Dak Prescott, who is out for the season, remarked: “He’s got some work to do, but I think we’re going to be fine.”
Assuming Rush remains on track, the Cowboys will lean heavily on Rico Dowdle’s steady contributions. His consistent production this season has made him an integral part of Dallas’ offensive identity. With standout performances in two critical wins, Dowdle’s impact continues to be a focal point as the Cowboys look to carry this momentum forward
