It’s set to be a family affair on Monday night when John Harbaugh’s Ravens visit Los Angeles to face Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers.

During his Thursday press conference, John fielded numerous questions about the matchup with his brother, particularly given the many connections between the two teams. John remarked that he couldn’t recall another instance where both an opposing team’s offensive and defensive coordinators had previously worked under him — all while preparing to coach against his sibling.
Reflecting on the similarities between the teams, Jim recently described watching the Ravens on film as akin to “looking in a mirror.” John echoed that sentiment.
“Yes, absolutely,” John said. “The culture, the way things are done, how [the Chargers] play, and the schemes are very similar. While not identical, the schemes are in many ways mirror images — from the people coaching to many of the players on the field.”
However, John emphasized that despite the parallels, the focus remains on the game itself. “At the end of the day, it’s two different football teams facing off in a crucial game. It’s going to come down to the players on the field making the difference.”
John acknowledged that Monday night’s game will have a unique dynamic.
“We’re familiar with the schemes, but there will definitely be adjustments and new ideas,” John Harbaugh said. “It’s that classic situation: ‘They know what we know, and we know that they know what we know.’ With that in mind, I’m sure there will be some surprises.”

Ultimately, the outcome will be decided by the players on the field. While schemes matter, what truly counts is how the game is played. It will come down to who executes better, makes the key plays, stays disciplined, plays physically, and excels in fundamental aspects like blocking and tackling. At its core, it’s a players’ game, and they will determine the result.
As expected, John had high praise for his brother, calling Jim “one of the best coaches of this generation, without a doubt.”
“Even if he weren’t my brother, I’d still say the same thing,” John said. “We’ve got a tough challenge ahead, traveling across the country to play on Monday Night Football.”
